What does home mean to you?
All feelings under one roof, my home is a modge podge of anger, resentment, loss, grief, love, gratitude, joy, firsts, and lasts. Home is our collection of tiny, beautiful things strung half-hazardly together.
My concept of ‘home’ is understood by the line Our collection of tiny, beautiful things strung half-hazardly together. That’s what I literally did. Representative of my family lineage, this collaging of materials utilizes family heirlooms from both sides to present my interpretation of ‘home’. Methodically threading the rings together following the order of my family tree, I’ve also knotted or attempted to ‘repair’ specific rings together, illustrating our ‘half-hazard’ method of fixing problems between one another. I cut threads to highlight severed relationships, leaving remnants of the thread to display the irreversible effects of choices between members and how these consequences alter the balance of my ‘home’.
